I typically don’t impost too many “takes” in baseball today, and I don’t have thoughts on specific plays for tonight. I do have some thoughts on why SaberSim got me to the lineups that I did for this one. First off, the top stack in SaberSim at this time is the Cubs. Or, to put it another way: the Cubs are the team I’ve gotten the most at the top of the ROI rankings for my single entry lineup. I’m inclined to go with it. The builder tends to give me 2-man and 3-man stacks of the Tigers alongside the Cubs, but I also had some A’s and Mariners come up.
The key to the Tigers is ownership and price. They are dirt cheap and have a $2,200 McKinstry leading off. Given how often he came up in my lineups, I think McKinstry might get some ownership, but it makes sense. Further, the Tigers moved him up to leadoff. They’re a good-sharp organization so I tend to trust what they do. Perhaps they see something in the McKinstry matchup against Sasaki? The other thing about McKinstry that improves his status is that the Tigers let him get an AB against a lefty reliever last night, indicating that he may not have the same pinch-hit risk that he did last season.
The other team I was getting small stacks from that I liked are the Mariners. This is simply a leverage play since Osvaldo Bido is expected to have near ~40% ownership in smaller field contests.
Finally, I was getting to Spencer Arrighetti a bit, but also to the Mets. I like that a lot and if I were playing multiple lineups I would love to have one of each to limit my risk. Arrighetti is known as a highly volatile pitcher that walks a lot of guys, but who also has good strikeout stuff.
In short, it’s mostly Cubs in the early going, stacked up with the Tigers or Seattle. Things will probably change as we get closer to lock and I run SaberSim again, but here’s to the Cubbies and Go Cubs Go!
