Tuesdays are always good for NHL DFS. The NBA slate is lighter, the NHL slate has eleven games, and DraftKings has seized the opportunity to create a $200k to first high stakes GPP. We’ve got $20k to first in the flagship GPP on DraftKings and the typical $10k to first in the mid stakes. FanDuel ain’t bad either, with a larger GPP and $33 tournament than most nights. Unfortunately, the NHL schedule is uneven and we can’t get these kind of tournaments with consistency given that Mon-Wed-Fri has so few games, but at least tonight’s the night.
When running early builds in SaberSim Pittsburgh, of all teams, was standing out. It’s simply a matter of price and ownership. However, despite their low total, there is a ceiling there as any team would have with a guy like Sidney Crosby. The Pens’ EV1 and PP are standing out in SS and to make that “take” more robust, our Paydirt model has them as a top-10 even strength stack, as well. There’s some upside and solid median, and they definitely stand out price wise.
If we’re leaning on Paydirst, we would also find a strong play in a similar price range in the Columbus Blue Jackets. They are strong on even strength and power play in the paydirt model, and their price is right. Playing Columbus allows you to do a whole lot more with your lineup. Werenski running the power play isn’t that cheap, but the rest of the stack makes it sing.
Finally, for spend ups, Tampa is looking good in both SaberSim and Paydirt. Next to Pittsburgh they are coming up the most for GPPs in SaberSim. Paydirt gives their EV1 the highest ceiling on the slate. What makes this one work? Tampa EV1 is expensive and they don’t have a great team total in Carolina tonight. Well, the quick answer is their powerplay, which has Oliver Bjorkstrand on there at minimum salary and Darren Raddyish on as the power play quarterback at just $3,200. As of now, Tampa is looking good, although I would venture a guess that they come in a bit higher owned if the cards were flipped over in the early afternoon.
There are plenty of other solid options on the slate. SaberSim is getting to some Rangers and Winnipeg on top of the aforementioned stacks. Keep in mind that its early and things will change as projections and ownership sharpens throughout the day. Good luck!
