Today’s slate is a tricky one. The Dallas Stars are standing out for obvious reasons as they host Anaheim and have an implied team total that’s about 0.5 goal higher than anyone else on the slate. The problem is SaberSim is trying to jam them and I wouldn’t be surprised if everyone else does too. Yet, that’s not the only problem: Dallas’ scoring distribution is pretty spread out, as is their ice time. The players get pretty even opportunities whether they are on power play 1 or power play 2, as do the three Stars’ top even strength lines.

The upside of this is it does create some opportunity to just jam Dallas five or six man stacks, as the field rarely gets to these and its a way to play the Stars in a much different way. If you can capture most of the scoring in one way or another in a 4-goal performance, you should be doing pretty well. At least in smaller field, single entry type of GPPs. The Stars’ fit price wise, so this is something to consider if you’re going to eat the chalk. Onslaught stacking them may be the way to play the chalk differently. It’s also the kind of idea we’ll want to keep in mind as MLB season approaches, since we’re gonna get those slates where we want to play chalky stacks, but have to try and get different within the lineup.

After Dallas, Washington was coming up the most for me in SaberSim’s contest simulations for the flagship on DK. It’s another one that just makes a lot of intuitive sense, but which can change as we approach lock and ownership numbers start to dial in. The Caps have a healthy goal total, in addition to a lot of incentive, at least for Ovechkin as he chases Gretzky’s record. You can stack them up on the power play or even strength and there are plenty of spend down spots to make onslaughts work.

Finally, speaking of spend downs, Calgary is looking like the early team to stack up in SaberSim’s model. The Flames’ are dirt cheap, but they’ve improved a bit over the last month and get a decent spot against the Rangers’ tonight. Igor Shetserkin is in net for the Rangers, and while he is always capable of putting up a save show, the Rangers’ defense isn’t giving him too much help. The Flames don’t have to do a whole lot at their prices to get there, and they’ll allow you to spend up with the rest of your lineup. If they go low owned, this is the value play to consider. It’s certainly the play SS is liking in the early going.

Good luck on the slate!
