NHL Slate, 3/4/2025

We’re back with a large slate, the usual for a Tuesday in NHL. Luckily, that also means that DraftKings has blessed us with solid contests for the night, including two high-stakes tournaments, $10k up top in the lottery and the larger version of the Hip Check and Poke Check.

The ownership should be spread out enough that you can play a whole lot of teams, although you still won’t want to eat too much in pOwn% so you can avoid getting into over owned spots. One spot I think worth targeting is the Columbus-Tampa games. There’s a couple reasons for this. For one, TB is on a back-to-back and not getting much love in the projections, in ownership, and pricing. They had a really low total and weren’t rostered much last night because they played Florida, but the Lightning are now in a strong spot against a Columbus team that can’t stop anyone. On the other hand, Columbus is in a strong spot in their own right. Columbus isn’t great overall, but they can score, and they get a Tampa team that has been giving up plenty of scoring. That has especially been the case when they go with the Guentzel-Point-Kucherov top line. That line can put up points, but is keen to trade chances. Finally, the total in this game has taken money since last night, which means it’s priced even better than the expectation at the time the DK algorithm did its thing pricing players for the slate.

Two other teams priced well and taking money in the betting markets over the course of last night and this morning are Calgary and Philadelphia. Calgary can be an ugly team to play, but they’re gaining momentum and starting to play a lot better. Their pricing is still cheap enough that you can fit the Flames in and still get in some studs. That’s the case for Philadelphia, as well. Neither team looks great, but the price is right for a game that is getting more steam to the over by the sharp betting market. Lastly, Philadelphia won’t have Ersson in net and is going with Fedetov (part of the reason for the steam on the total).

Things will change, and their are a lot of other good spots on such a large slate, but these four teams– Columbus, Tampa, Calgary, and Philadelphia– stand out in my first glance. I’ll have more content later today in video form to see how the projections and SaberSim slagorithm build lineups for the slate. And we’ll see if, and how much they support these first glance assumptions. Good luck!
